Each trail spends time in two different camps in different Reserves and is accompanied by a qualified and experienced guide and a chef that prepares the meals. Walks are combined with drives and are conducted in the morning, afternoon and at night. Included are all transfers, all walks and drives, all meals and accommodation. Excluded are drinks and entrance fees (Conservation Levy). Maximum per trail 8, no minimum. Unfortunately no children under the age of 16.
Accommodation & Facilities
The Transfrontiers bush camps are small, intimate and open to the environment, giving it a real safari atmosphere. Each camp is non-fenced and situated on riverbeds, accommodating a maximum of 8 people, a guide and a chef. Our guests overnight in large walk-in twin-bedded tents with a verandah, solar lighting and linen, duvets, pillows etc. provided. There is no electricity. The ablution facilities are close but separate with hot (open) showers and flush toilets. There are two showers and separate toilets in each camp. Three times per day, a chef prepares the meals in the kitchen tent, and are served in the dining tent, overlooking the camp and the riverbed. Each camp runs an honesty bar that provides beers, cool drinks, wine, gin & tonic, Smirnoff Spins, Savanna's and bottled water.
These drinks are paid for at the end of the safari, together with the Conservation Levy.
Outdoor Facilities
Walks are conducted in the morning at first light and late in the afternoon, avoiding the African heat and moving along with the animals. An average fitness is required, as the walks can last up to 4 hours. In order to increase game viewing and photographic opportunities the walks are combined with game drives as well, all depending on weather conditions, animal movements and the fitness of the group. After the afternoon activity, sundowners are followed by a night drive, looking for the nocturnal creatures of the African bush.
Three wholesome cooked (African) meals are provided per day: brunch upon return from the morning walk, lunch before the afternoon activity and dinner before or after the night drive. A snack breakfast of cereals and rusks and coffee and tea are available before the morning walk.
Sporting & Leisure Activities
Besides wildlife, the Hoedspruit area offers the largest cheetah breeding centre in the world (Kapama), an authentic Shangaan cultural village (Nyani), a rehibilitation center (Moholoholo), a snake and reptile park (Swadini), horseriding, rafting, ballooning, microlighting, and is the gateway into the Blyde River Canyon and the Kruger National Park.
Cultural & Historical interest
The Hoedspruit area is the heart of wildlife in South Africa. Bordering the 2.2 million hectare (Greater) Kruger National Park, Hoedspruit thrives on the private game lodges and citrus farming. In 1898, only a small portion of the Kruger National Park was proclaimed a protected area, slowly growing into the Park as we know it today. It was named after Paul Kruger, the president of the Transvaal Republic, who initiated the proclamation.
Culturally, the people living in the Hoedspruit area are predominantely Shangaan, Afrikaans and English.
