Unique property situated in the historical ex mining town of Pilgrim's Rest. The whole town has been declared an historical monument. The hotel buildings have been beautifully restored & consist of the origional hotel and several annexes which date back to 110 years ago. Furnished and decorated in the applicable Victorian style, the local museum services have even taken the time to recreate certain origional wallpapers found behind fire-places etc. during the renovation. Accomodations consist of rooms with en-suite in the main building and several suites with lounges, extra bedrooms situated in the annexes. Our restaurant is renowned for it's hearty traditional food plus the option of Hamburgers etc. Have a drink in the Church bar (used to be an actual church) and meet some of the interessting local inhabitants who have many a tale to tell about the "good ol' days". Situated in the most northern foothills of the Drakensburg makes the view spectacular and the threat of Malaria non-existant. Activities in the town consist of Horse riding, Golf course, well marked walking trails, various museums including the origional gold panning site where tours are conducted daily & an historical graveyard. There are also curiosity shops aplenty of which many manufacture their own goods for sale. Situated close to the breathtaking Panarama route which includes the Blyde river canyon & spectacular waterfalls & within an hours drive of the Kruger Park, the Royal Hotel is an excellent choice!
