At the foothills of the Drakensberg lies Sandford Park Country Hotel, a thatched farm-style retreat with country cottage décor, surrounded by 100 acres of woodland landscape. Sandford is steeped in history and was originally built from stone in 1850 to be used as a coach house. In 1900 it was used as barracks during the Boer war for British troops.
The personality of the hotel is embodied through its mix of old and new architectural designs and finishing’s which adorn Sandford’s comfortable accommodation.
The Drakensberg is one of the leading holiday regions in South Africa and Sandford is situated in the Central/Northern ‘Berg’, close to the famous ‘Amphitheatre’. The Royal National Park is not far from Sandford, where spectacular views and beautiful walks can be enjoyed by young and old alike. Nearby is the Spioenkop Game Reserve, with excellent game viewing all year round. Visit the well-known battlefield of Spioenkop. Only three and a half hours from Johannesburg and two and a half hours from Durban, Sandford is ideally situated for that unforgettable mountain wedding.
Accommodation & Facilities
Guests have a choice of 26 traditional rooms furnished in charming cottage style, with thatched roofs to ensure that the rooms are warm in winter and cool in summer.
The 24 new executive rooms are finished with modern fittings, digital satellite television and have bathrooms with separate bath and shower and private patios with stunning views of the Berg.
A honeymoon suite and rooms with fireplaces are also available but require pre-booking. All spacious bedrooms have tea and coffee-making facilities, double or twin beds, en-suite bathrooms with separate showers, telephones, safes for valuables and of course, breathtaking mountain views.

Set in a picturesque English garden, Sandford is the ideal location for a peaceful rest surrounded by dramatic mountain panoramas. A host of recreational facilities are on offer including bird watching, fishing in the dam, walking on one of the trails or lounging around the pool. Play a leisurely game of croquet, volleyball, badminton, snooker or darts.
