Sandals, a thatched roof lodge decorated in an Afro-Caribbean style, is set amongst lush indigenous milkwood trees. The palm fringed pool, fully licensed pool bar, restaurant all create a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. Our spacious 10 bedrooms have baths, showers, extra length beds, private decks or patios and all the modern comforts. Merely an hour’s drive from Port Elizabeth and one and a half hours from game reserves, 50 metres from the main beach and within walking distance of quaint village shops, 18 hole golf course, restaurants, tennis and squash courts.
Sandals cuisine embraces South Africa’s rich natural abundance of fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and shellfish. Sample imaginative local and international dishes infused with Caribbean, Spice Island, African and Indian flavours…..capturing the essence of South African cuisine.
St. Francis Bay is a paradise for watersports enthusiasts: It boasts sandy beaches, ideal conditions for surfing. From August to October, whales can be seen daily in the Bay. Our "Little Venice" boasts numerous canals and access to the Kromme River by boat. The Harbour is the centre of the Calamari fishing and deep sea fishing trips.
About 10 kilometres south lies Cape St. Francis with its impressive lighthouse built in 1878, which is open to visitors. Beautiful walks & trails through the Fynbos landscape abound or climb between the rocks and watch the enormous breakers in awe.

Cultural & Historical interest
Remains of the old
Not all San art is found on cave walls. Some has been found on portable stones. The oldest painted stone was recovered near Oudtshoorn and the painting is estaimated to be 6400 years old. The second oldest painting was found at the Klasies River Caves and has been dated back 3900 years.
Hunting
The Kouga region is rich in fossils and San rock art. At the Klasies River near Humansdorp, the remains of a man estimated to be an incredible 120000 years old. This is some 60000years older than those examples of Neanderthalman from Europe. This site has also provided the earliest evidence of the use of fire by modern man.
