Accommodation Overview  

Mymering Estate is situated in the fertile Dwarsrivier Valley, adjacent to export wine and fruit farms and overlooked by the majestic Towerkop sentinel.

The Estate is a working essential-oil farm with an initial
36 000 lavender and 24 000 rosemary plants.

Two luxurious suites, overlooking the lavender fields, comprises of large bed-sitting rooms with en suite de luxe bathrooms. Relax on wooden decks or in the private swimming pool with meals served alfresco or your private deck or in the resplendent stone and thatch manor house.

Alternatively, relax in our charming self-catering fully-equipped thatched cottage. Both bedrooms are en suite and meals can be taken by arrangement in the manor house.

The surrounding fynbos has been undisturbed for 25 years and is home to many birds and small game species. Succulents abound in the Klein Karoo rock formations.

Mymering Estate is ideally situated for day trips to the Seweweekspoort and the Swartberg Mountain pass. Calitzdorp (40km) and Oudtshoorn (90km) are an easy day's outing. Wander down to Mosselbay or Stillbay, less than 2 hours away.

Luxury suites
Luxurious rooms, with Kingsize beds, percale linen, and quality towels with Lounge suite and Ottomans overlooking a 5 metre patio with private pool between 2 rooms. Luxury bathrooms with bath, seperate glassed in shower, vanity and loo, overlooks pool and lavender fields. Galley kitchen has tea and coffee making facilities, stocked bar fridge as well as an outside barbeque

Thatched cottage
Thatched character cottage with 2 luxury bedrooms each en suite, with open plan lounge/ diningroom area, with french doors opening onto 2 seperate patios with outside weber braai facilities. The cottage is fully equipped. The most magnificent views of the Towerkop Mountain and overlooks vineyards

Swimming Pools - a rim flow pool at the Manor House overlook the gardens and dam. The luxury suites have their own private pool and deck.

Evening Dinner - Gourmet Dinners & excellent wines are served in the resplendent Dining room.

Summer lunches - Lunches are served al fresco on your private deck or under the oak tree, overlooking the garden.

Viewing deck - The Manor House has a large viewing deck, ideal for evening sundowners, or relax and study the prolific bird life.

Study letters, and newspaper clippings pertaining to the politics of South Africa dating back to the 1920’s

Historical books and files - A library of historical information is available in the Manor House. 

Outdoor Facilities
Vineyard Meander
Walk through the Lavender fields and follow the sign boarded route through the Vineyards. Visit the packing shed during the picking season.

Springvale Mountain Hike
Follow the well signposted Mountain Hike through the unspoilt fynbos to the top of the "kopje" to view the magnificent Dwarsrivier Valley in 360 degrees.
Duration - 1½ hour

Mountain Biking
There are plenty of trails in the area.

Banyan style massage under the oak tree, with Lavender and various essential oils.

Celebrate your special day in the Dwarsrivier Valley. This beautiful wedding chapel is situated 2 km from Mymering Estate. After the service proceed back to Mymering estate by donkey Cart, have your reception in the beautiful gardens on the Estate, and spend your honeymoon in the new luxurious suites which overlook the lavender fields with it's own private pool.

Seweweekspoort / Seven Weeks Poort
One of Ladismith’s most popular attractions is definitely Seweweekspoort / Seven Weeks Poort and is a definite must for hiking, moutainbiking and 4 x 4 enthusiasts!

It is one of the most awe-inspiring and spectacular of all the mountain ravines in the country. Author and poet, CJ Langenhoven, called it one of the "seven wonders" of the old Cape Province. Seweweekspoort was opened in 1862 and was one of the first links through the Swartberg range. It is a spectacular drive: towering cliffs, jagged rock formations, which was formed by the forces of volcanic eruptions, and interesting river crossings The pass winds for 17km through the mountains at a level of 600 - 1000m above sea level. It crosses the stream 23 times, whilst the mountain slopes on both sides reach 1500 - 20. Natural Surroundings and Wildlife

Vegetation varies widely and ranges from fynbos in the mountains to
karoo broken veld, spekboom and succulent karoo on the koppies and
plains. Several species are endemic to the Klein Karoo, e.g. 21 of the
22 Gibbaem species. The area also has a unique thatching reed,
Roodecoma Arida. Freesia Speciosa is found only in this district.

A very rare bulb which appears here is Syringodea Saxatilis. The fynbos
include the rare Protea Aristata and Protea Pruinosa. Amongst the
heathendemic species such as Erica Toringbergensis and Erica Insignis
are found. Another shrub endemic to the Klein Karoo, is the beautiful
Nymania Capensis ("Klapperbos").

Wildlife in the area include gray rheebok, klipspringer and occasional kudu, Cape mountain zebra, steenbok, duiker, red hartebees, eland, springbok and numerous other small species. Troops of baboons are common and Leopard are occasionally spotted in the mountains. Reptiles are represented by five species of tortoise, boomslang, cape cobra, puff adder and various other snakes and lizards.

Cultural & Historical interest    
The town was established in 1852. Named after Lady Juana Smith, wife of the Governor of the Cape, Sir Harry Smith, the original "Ladysmith" was changed in 1879 to "Ladismith" to prevent confusion with a similarly named town in Kwazulu Natal.

Ladismith serves as an extensive farming area with ideal climate for the production of quality fruit - apricots, peaches, plums, nectarines and grapes. As with the rest of the Little Karoo, Ladismith benefited from the ostrich feather boom at the turn of the century.
