Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa |
|
Marlinspike Guest Lodge holds a prime position in the Cape Town, overlooking colourful Fisherman's village of Hout Bay, with spectacular, uninterrupted views of the yacht marina, the fishing harbour, Chapman's Peak and Hout Bay beach from every bedroom!
We offer bed and breakfast accommodation in one of our six double guest rooms. Each of which has uninterrupted sea and mountain views as well as en suite bathrooms, tea and coffee facilities, TV and use of the swimming pool. Two of the rooms can be combined into a family unit (ground floor). If you are a business traveller, or if you just want to stay in touch, there are phones in every room and we are one of the few Western Cape Guest Houses offering optional Broadband Wireless Internet access from all rooms as well as Conference and Office facilities.
Children are welcome (under parent’s strict control of course as the pool is not covered and the balconies are not ‘children friendly’) and while the indoor areas and rooms are non smoking you may take a puff in our beautiful indigenous garden with a variety of fynbos which is unique to this part of the world.
Start the day with fresh fruit salad, cereal, toast, fruit juice and coffee or tea or if you prefer a hot South African breakfast, with eggs of your choice (fried, boiled, poached, scrambled or omelette) with bacon, tomato and mushrooms.
After breakfast there is plenty to see and do both in Hout Bay and Cape Town.

In 1652 Jan van Riebeeck landed in the Cape and it wasn't long before he visited Hout Bay. He describes the forests of Hout Bay as being the finest in the world. It was van Riebeeck who gave Hout Bay its present name.
The first Freeburgher farmers arrived in Hout Bay in 1677. Pieter van der Westhuizen and Willem Schalk, both capable farmers were granted land, as much land as they could work. They were to plant grain and as payment for the hire of the land to supply the company with one tenth of the harvested grain.
In 1873 manganese was discovered in the Constantiaberg. From 1909 to 1911 manganese was mined in Hout Bay.
