Lemonwood
Self Catering Accommodation
Dargle, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa |
|
Lemonwood is in the heart of the Dargle valley and conservancy area, which is itself in the middle of the Natal Midlands. We are conveniently situated for crafts of the Midlands Meander, access to the many private schools of the area and day trips to the Drakensberg. Alternatively, relax by the swimming pool and breathe in the beauty of the Dargle.
Our farm has 90 hectares of indigenous mist-belt forest with 30 hectares of untouched velt above the bush. There are self guided walks in the forest ranging from an easy 20 minutes stroll to an all day hike up to the top where you are rewarded with spectacular 360 degree views of the surrounding valleys and mountains.
There is a dam and wetland area which supports many varieties of birds including crowned cranes and spur winged geese. Find the petrified tree or picnic under the largest Yellowoods in Natal (so it is claimed).

Accommodation & Facilities
We have three self catering units.
Two cottages, one one-bedroomed and one two-bedroomed. All bedrooms are en-suite and there are open fires and under-floor heating for the colder months. There is a D.S.T.V. in each cottage with a video recorder and a small video library for those rainy days. There is also an en-suite double bedroom with a kitchen that is attached to the main farmhouse
Both cottages back onto the bush and are secluded. The dawn chorus will wake you in the mornings and if you are an early riser you may catch a glimpse of the spectacular paradise flycatcher on his early morning rounds.

Sporting & Leisure Activities
Being in the centre of the Midlands, there are all the craft attractions of the Meander on our doorstep, with some of the finer quality craftspeople happily close.
There is fishing available locally and riding trails. The activities in the Midlands also include fine and easily accessible golf courses and the 'extreme sport' of the Karkloof Canopy Tour.
We are conveniently situated for the private schools in the area from Nottingham Road to Pietermaritzburg, especially for the events or open weekends at Michaelhouse, Hilton and St. Anne's.
There are several wedding and conference venues nearby.
The battlefield area is also accessible for day trips or more extensive overnight stays. We can put you in touch with tour operators if wanted. Also day trips to the world famous Drakensberg are easily accomplished. If you are spending more than a couple of days on the area a picnic, walk or inspection of the cave art (or all three) is a must.
It has to be said though, that we find it hard to tear ourselves away from our beautiful little corner of South Africa in the Dargle.
