Iketla Lodge is a small, intimate, 4 star guest lodge in the mountains near the Blyde River Canyon. It is ideally situated to be used as a base from which to explore the Panorama Route, as an over-night stop en-route to the Kruger Park and private reserves, as well as a place to relax and unwind.
Iketla is located on a private nature conservancy of 540 ha and has free-roaming animals and excellent bird life. Accommodation is offered in spacious stone-built thatched cottages. The cottages have en-suite bathrooms as well as additional outdoor showers. Private patios have stunning views over the valley and mountains.
Activities include relaxing around the pool, self-guided walks along well marked walking trails, mountain biking as well as guided walks. A special 3 to 4 hour guided walk is also offered in a neighbouring wildlife sanctuary of 2200 ha with lots of general game. Meals are a social event and we serve delicious, traditional South African food.

Accommodation & Facilities
Six spacious, free-standing stone-and-thatch cottages with en-suite bathrooms and private patios. Additional private outdoor showers offer the opportunity to shower under the stars! The cottages are decorated in an understated African theme and have quality furnishings and fittings. Cottages are also equipped with coffee and tea making facilities. The private patios offer a stunning view of the mountains and valley.
Two cottages have been linked with a 6 metre passage to form the ideal family unit. The unit can sleep 2 Adults and up to 4 children.
Guests get together in the large Lapa with bar, dining area and lounge area. In the winter time, we make a log fire in the fireplace in the lounge.
Weather permitting, dinner is also served around the campfire in the boma.
Outdoor Facilities
Well-marked walking and mountain biking trails ranging in difficulty and length. The shortest and easy trail is about 25 minutes and the longest walking trail 3 hours. Mountain bikes and helmets are supplied. A sparkling pool overlook the valley.
Iketla is the ideal base from which to explore the Panorama Route: A scenic drive takes guests to the Blyde River Canyon, Bourke's Luck potholes, God's Window and the rainforest at the top of the mountain, the historical goldmining town of Pilgrim's Rest, numerous spectacular waterfalls and view points.
Cultural & Historical interest
Ohrigstad was founded by the Voortrekkers in 1845. A graveyard and ruins of the original Voortrekker town can be visited. Archeological finds in the area however, show that the Pedi and the San lived in the area as far back as 7500 years. The Museum of Man - the largest Bushman Rock Shelter in the province, can be visited.
The Echo Caves is also of interest.
