Outdoor Facilities
FoForest Edge is a Nature-lovers' retreat and offers magnificent forest hiking trails and biking trails.
Birding is a pleasure and even rarely seen species can be spotted by the patient Twitcher. Baboons and monkeys are frequently spotted on the property and bush pig and bush buck have also been spotted by visitors. The forest offers incredible tree species and ancient "Kalanders" and the ferns and forest flowers will surprise any observant hiker. There are, of course, still an elephant (or elephantom?) or two in the forest, but visitors are highly unlike to see any, unless they go on an eco-trail offered by a local operator. Elephants can be visited up close and even touched at the Knysna Elephant Park.
Forest Edge is a safe haven for kids to explore and enjoy the outdoors.
A wide choice of activities, adventures, restaurants, shops and beaches are offered within 20 minutes of Forest Edge.
Cultural & Historical interest
Knysna and especially the indigenous forests have a rich, romantic and exotic history.
Myth and legend unfold under the Oaks of Belvidere, with its old Manor House and Chapel, and will lead you through forest glades and glens, listening to the intrigue of Knysna's now legendary founder, George Rex, believed by some to have been fathered by King George lll of England.
Another historical attraction are the Millwood Gold Mines. Alluvial gold was found here in 1885, which caused a rush to the area. At Jubilee Creek, the exact spot where gold was found, is 10 minutes from Forest Edge, a beautiful picnic area.
Books: "Circles in the Forest" Dalene Matthee; "Elephantoms" Lyall Watson
