Warning:
Crossing the Cederberg Mountain Range into the Agter–Pakhuis Valley you are running the risk of losing your heart.
We did.
Nestled in the picturesque Agter-Pakhuis Valley, 26 km from Clanwilliam on route to the historic Wuperthal village, you will find De Pakhuys Guest Cottage. The farm and cottage belongs to the Kruger Family from Cape Town, who on a visit to the area in 2003 couldn't resist having a piece of this paradise to themselves. They subsequently bought a piece of land in this magnificent valley and decided to renovate one of the cottages on the farm and share the splendour of the Cederberg with visitors.
The cottage and guests are looked after and cared for by our partners and friends, Mark & Marinda Botha, who farms on the land bordering us. Mark and Marinda both grew up in this beautiful valley and can share some interesting facts about the history of the Agter Pakhuis area with our guests.
Accommodation & Facilities
De Pakhuys Chalet is named after the original farm, Pakhuis, established in the late 1700's by Dutch settlers moving north from the Cape Town area.
The cottage has two bedrooms, one and half bathrooms and has been extensively renovated and luxuriously furnished to accomodate 6 guests in comfort. The air-conditioning unit will ensure utmost comfort during the hot summer months.
The chalet offers beautiful views of the surrounding farmland and towering Cederberg mountain range in all directions.
The chalet offers all modern comforts including Sattelite Television, land line telephone, microwave oven, fridge/freezer, full bathroom with shower and bath tub.
Guests are welcome to have a braai outside, braai packs are available on request and wood is provided free of charge.
Outdoor Facilities
The farm offers a beautiful scenic drive to the top section of the farm accessible only with a 4x4 vehicle. The top section of the farm consists of 60 ha of rooibos tea lands and 260 ha of unspoilt fynbos gorges and wild flowers during season. Hundred years old Wild Olive trees, or commonly know as olienhout trees, can be found wedged between the rocks. An old hollow rock cave can be used for a picnic or for those that really wants to "rough it", as an overnight camping spot.
A Walking Trail takes you down the 4x4 track and up to Die Plaat area of the farm. The walk takes approximately two hours but can be varied for those who feel like a shorter walk. During the flower season the walk takes you through endless veldflower fields. The walk offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountain range and the valley below. Alternatively follow the banks of the Brandwynriver down to the Waterfalls.
