There's no better place to take a break/break your journey than in the vast quiet of the Great Karoo, in historic Graaff-Reinet.

These two charming cottages date back to the 1800s and combine authentic Karoo style and ambience with every modern comfort. Beautifully restored and furnished with antiques, they face each other across the shady quiet of one of the most picturesque streets of the town. Each cottage has its own private garden.

Accommodation & Facilities
Pine and slate floors and reed ceilings, offset the country antique furniture of this charming cottage (also pop-up screen one), which has comfortable living and dining rooms and three ensuite bedrooms that offer different but equally comfortable options:

• Room 1
  This bedroom is a cool retreat that combines luxury with stylish simplicity. Crisp white linen offsets a magnificent pair of antique stinkwood bedsteads, the dark wood of which is echoed in the panelling of the ensuite bath and shower room.
• Room 2
  An antique brass and iron bedstead is the inviting focus of this spacious room in which a scheme of soft green and white combines with country furniture to provide a classic Karoo ambience with every modern comfort. The ensuite bathroom has a bath.
• Room 3
  Reed ceilings and cottage furniture make this a cheerful, cosy room. Spacious enough to accommodate one double and two single beds, it also has an ensuite bathroom and a shower cubicle, all of which makes it an ideal room for a young family.

Breakfast is a sumptuous traditional country affair at Cypress Cottages with the best of fresh farm produce that the Karoo has to offer. Fruit in season, picked from the orchard, figs, grapes, apricots, new-laid eggs and bacon, homemade preserves.

Plus all the usual cereals, muesli and yoghurt, served indoors at the cosy dining table, or out in the garden.

There is an excellent choice of trails through the surrounding countryside and mountains, which may be undertaken independently or in organized parties with a guide.

More than 22 species of birds have been recorded in the region.

with local experts can be arranged. Horse and Pony Trail Riding: is a great way to explore the countryside, especially the higher ground and more inaccessible regions.

Quad Bikes: A modern and exciting way to see the Karoo and have an excellent day out. Professional guides provide tuition and careful supervision.

Golf: Graaff-Reinet boasts a well-maintained and challenging nine-hole course and a clubhouse with every facility.

Cultural & Historical interest   
Graaff-Reinet is uniquely situated at the centre of a nature reserve of 15000 hectares, which supports a variety of wild life, including mountain zebra, wildebeest, ostrich, eight species of antelope and the rare Cape Buffalo. Some 70 kilometres of road wind through the part allowing for hours of game viewing by car. Game drives with expert rangers in special viewing vehicles are also available from local tour companies
