The Cavern is situated in the Northern Drakensberg. This region of the 'berg is relatively unspoiled by development. But what really sets the Cavern apart is the values of the management. These values contribute to the atmosphere of the place, and to the enjoyable holiday experience that is offered.

Sporting & Leisure Activities Hiking is the most popular activity at the Cavern, and our daily guided hikes take guests to beauty spots in our verdant valley. Horse rides are also a popular activity. The Drakensberg Power Station is a pumped storage scheme, with the turbines built completely underground. Water is pumped during off peak times and the water is run back through the turbines during peak demand times, generating power for the National Grid. Tours are operated daily. There are many recreational day drives that one could do. For example, to the Sentinel Car Park, to Champagne Valley, to Clarence and the Golden Gate National Park. Over 160 species of birds will keep birders occupied. Cultural & Historical interest The cultural heritage is attached to abundant rock art sites of the San Bushmen. Although relatively recently painted in historical terms, the San people have been completely wiped out in the Drakensberg, making their art completely irreplaceable. The last Drakensberg bushman is reported to have lived in Eland Cave in the 1940s. The Drakensberg Ecology is fragile and is home to several threatened species. The Lamergaier is a large bird of prey is one example.
