Artist's Paradise
Guest House, B&B and Self Catering Accommodation
Jeffreys Bay, Eastern Cape, South Africa |

Artist's Paradise is a 3 star home-from-home farm-style guesthouse at the beautiful valley of Kabeljousriver - a 5 min drive outside Jeffreys Bay and the beach. It is the place to relax and enjoy the calmness of country life.
The guesthouse is situated in the green valley of the Kabeljous river. During the day the milking cows of my neighbor are grazing here. And we have got up to one year old friesian bulls.
The meat-cows are grazing on the fields upperhill between the bucks (bushbucks, duikers, grey bucks).
Due to the diversity in nature [some parts are still orignal rhinosterveld and fynbos] we have a wide diversity of bird-life. So it is an eldorado for bird-watch lovers.
In 2004 we have started a vineyard upperhills [15 hect] and we are hoping to get our first wine in 3-4 years time. We are growing our own organic vegetables and have chickens.
Beside the guesthouse and farm we are running an art center. There is a permanent art exhibition and art classes are given in the studio next to the guesthouse.
Accommodation & Facilities
The guesthouse has got 6 en-suite guestrooms with coffee/tea facilities, safe, fan, heater and electric blankets, several lounges (tv room, dining room, big lounge, library, vestibule). Next to the outdoor swimming pool facing the green valley of the Kabeljous river is a thatch-roofed sitting area.
Our breakfast is famous for the fresh home-made bread rolls.
We serve lunch, picnic baskets, supper/braai on request.
Your host - Adelheid Peltenburg - is English, Dutch, German and French speaking. As an official Eastern & Western Cape tour guide she can inform you about all the activities in these areas.
Our guests are free to have a walk on the farm or to the waterfall of the neighbors
Outdoor Facilities
Jeffreys Bay only a 5 min drive is famous for its beaches, surfing and sandboarding. Nearly always there are dolphins playing with the surfers in the sea and in the winter whales are staying in the bay.
Nearby there are several private game reserves, horse riding facilities and free-accessible nature reserves.
And the two national parks - Addo National Elephant Park and Tsitsikamma can be visited during a day-tour.
If you want to do shoppings or visit the casino - the friendly city Port Elizabeth is only 75 km from Jeffreys Bay.
Cultural & Historical interest
In the older days the Kouga area was inhabited by the Khoikhoi. They were pastoralists and wandering around with their cattle. There are several historical heritage spots - fertility caves, rock paint caves, however there are still not open for public.
In Hankey you will find the grave of Sarah Baartmans.
In the 18th century the Dutch trekboeren moved further and further to the East from Cape Province and there are still remnants of these old trails.
In the 19th century the English founded several missionary posts in the area.
